Two weekends ago I started sanding down the trailer, exposing some bare metal, then left for a vacation. I came back to all the bare metal being rusted again. I was wondering if this was going to happen but I decided to take a chance. Only about 1% of the trailer is bare metal, so it was a quick fix and not a real problem at all. It just meant I had to sand those areas down again, and then prime it with Rustoleum primer to prevent any other rust formation.
John came over today after I got off of work and helped me take care of it. He sanded while I washed all the dirt and grime off(I just used Dawn soap) so the paint would stick. Then we each took a can of spray paint and worked on priming all the extensions/bare metal together. Having someone else there made everything go by much faster. From start to finish, today's work probably only took 45 minutes.
Tomorrow I'm considering painting the primed areas black and sealing them up for good, but we'll see. I could also work on replacing the lights.
